My actual pair after two weeks of daily abuse – still looks brand new
I Bought the $39 HAOYUYAN ANC Headphones on Amazon… Here’s What Happened After 2 Weeks of Real Use
Hey, it’s me again. A few weeks ago I was browsing Amazon for a cheap pair of noise-cancelling headphones because my AirPods Pro died on a flight and I refused to pay airport prices. I ended up clicking “Buy Now” on these random HAOYUYAN over-ears priced at $39.99. Yeah, the brand name sounds made-up, but the reviews were decent and the battery claim (80 hours?!) sounded too good to be true.
Two weeks later, they’ve barely left my head. Here’s my completely honest, no-BS experience.
Day 1: “These can’t possibly be good…”
Unboxed them at my desk. Super light, soft earpads, folds up tiny with a little cloth pouch. Pairing was instant. Turned on ANC… wait, there’s actually a noticeable drop in office noise. I was already impressed for forty bucks.
The Sound – Exactly What I Expected (in a good way)
I listen mostly to hip-hop, lo-fi beats, and podcasts. These are BASSY. Like, the first song I played (Travis Scott) made me go “whoa” out loud. If you like neutral, analytical sound – these aren’t it. But for everyday listening on the train? Perfect. I actually prefer them over my old Sony CH-510 for music.
No app, no EQ – but I just tweaked the equalizer in Spotify and called it a day.
Noise Cancellation – The Biggest Shock
I’m not gonna lie: I thought the “hybrid ANC” claim was marketing nonsense. It’s not Bose, but holy crap it murders subway rumble and airplane drone. On the NYC 4 train with ANC on, I could barely hear the brakes screeching. Voices still leak through (my coworker tapping me on the shoulder still works), but low-frequency noise? Gone.
Better than my girlfriend’s Anker Q30 she paid $70 for last year. I A/B tested them side-by-side. No, really.
Battery Life – This Part Isn’t Marketing
I charged them to 100% the day they arrived (November 6). Today is November 20. I still have 28% left.
That’s with ANC on the whole time, about 3–4 hours per day. I’ve literally charged them ONCE in two weeks. My phone dies before these do. Mind blown.
Comfort – I Forgot I Had Them On
I have a big head and wear glasses. Most over-ears crush my temples after an hour. These? Wore them for the entire NYC → Miami flight (5+ hours) and only took them off when we landed because I had to. Zero hot spots. They’re light, the clamp is gentle, and the pads are super soft.
The Not-So-Great Parts (because nothing is perfect at $40)
- Call quality outdoors is rough – wind noise is bad. Fine inside though.
- Treble can be a bit sharp on poorly recorded tracks (some YouTube videos sound hissy).
- No multipoint Bluetooth (can’t switch between phone and laptop seamlessly).
- Slight ANC hiss in dead silence – but who listens in dead silence?
My Daily Routine Now
- Morning subway → ANC on, playlist going
- Work in café → ANC on, lo-fi focus beats
- Gym → surprisingly stay on during cardio (though I sweat a lot and they still work fine)
- Flight home → slept the whole way, didn’t hear the baby crying two rows up
Would I buy them again?
I already ordered a second pair as a backup and one for my brother. At this price, they’re stupid good.
If you’re thinking “there’s no way $39 headphones can be decent” – I was you two weeks ago. Now these live on my head more than my $250 Sony XM4 did.
Bottom line: If you just want something that blocks out the world, lasts forever on a charge, and sounds fun for daily use – pull the trigger. You won’t regret it.
My personal rating after living with them: 4.3/5 – easily the best audio purchase I made in 2025.
(Still going strong on that original charge as I write this ✌️)
